As someone who used to be a solopreneur running a mobile dog training business and is now the Chief Visionary Officer of Blue Line K-9 Dog Training franchising enterprise, I understand the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur. After coming back from Iraq, I struggled with PTSD and almost lost everything. I strongly believe that mental health is crucial for success in business, which is why we prioritize it as a core component of the support system we offer to our franchisees.
I want to share with you some of the strategies that I have implemented over the years to maintain my mental wellbeing and help me stay passionate about life. Burnout is one of the biggest dangers to entrepreneurs and small business owners who run their own franchises. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by all of the responsibilities that come with managing a franchise and lose sight of why you got into the business in the first place. To avoid burnout, it’s important to stay passionate. If you don't have a plan to stay on track you may get overwhelmed and frustrated ultimately calling it quits. The following tips are ones I use daily and are part of our franchise success kit. I hope they inspire you to keep going or at the minimum provide you the opportunity to remember why you got started and realign where necessary.
1. Take regular breaks: You need to take a break from the day-to-day grind. Schedule a few days off each month and use that time to recharge, fill up your creative reserves and come back to work refreshed and with renewed enthusiasm.
2. Challenge your why and dare to go deeper: Your “why” is what motivates you when times are tough, or when roadblocks pop up in front of you. Post your "why" where you can see it every day and share it with others to hold you accountable. Remember, team work makes the dream work and even accountability partners and advisors are part of "the team"
3. Deal with the "stuff" running a company is isolating. It often feels like "no one understands" Stuffing it down or trying to power through, doesn't work in the long run. Connect with your mentor. You are the only one who can choose to keep going, but you don't have to go alone. This one reminder to connect with a mentor, will free up energy you once used to keep everything stuffed down and set you up for a healthy work/life balance.
In order to thrive, we should focus on understanding our motivation for work, making time for self-care, and building connections with others. It's important to push ourselves beyond our limits, enjoy the process, and pursue our passions every day. When we are passionate about our work, success will naturally follow. No matter the industry of your franchise we can still work together to ignite a passion for making a positive impact in the world.
At Blue Line K-9 Dog Training, we welcome entrepreneurs who want to be exceptional in the industry and lead their way to success. We hope you take these tips and find ways to stay passionate in your franchise endeavors.
