With the global pet industry poised to grow to $500 billion by 2030, and the U.S. positioned to remain the largest market at a predicted $200 billion, it’s no question that the pet sector is the place to be. And as North America’s fastest-growing pet services franchise, Dogtopia is leading the pack.
As early pioneers in the pet space offering top-quality dog daycare, overnight, and spa services, Dogtopia has created a fun, loving, and safe home away from home for dogs. And the proof is in the numbers: As of May 2023, Dogtopia surpassed 500 signed franchise agreements in the U.S. since new management took over in 2015, solidifying its dominance as the largest and leading pet services franchise in the world.
“Awarding 500 licenses in just seven years is a testament to our experienced team, unparalleled support, leading business model, modern brand, and the daily focus on executing our noble cause—to enhance the joy of pet parenthood and enable dogs to positively change our world,” Alex Samios, Chief Growth Officer of Dogtopia, said. “I am so proud of this brand, the Dogtopia Village, and our amazing franchisees.”
Even further, from 2021 to 2022, Dogtopia, a nearly $200 million company, recorded a 46.9% increase in systemwide sales and 13% same-store sales improvement. Additionally, in 2022 alone, Dogtopia awarded a record 114 new units to current and new franchisees.
Dogtopia has attracted entrepreneurs from a variety of notable backgrounds and franchise brands, such as Orangetheory Fitness, Primrose Schools, Dunkin, Jimmy John's, Jersey Mike's Subs, and Sports Clips. The network comprises both single-unit and multi-unit operators, including husband and wife teams, father and daughter/son duos, siblings, and many different types of experienced business owners.
Father-and-son duo Al and AJ Rodriguez, who purchased rights to Pittsburgh, plan to develop the Pennsylvania market with Dogtopia locations. They are experienced multi-unit franchisees with Sport Clips, operating 34 units with more in development.
"Al and I both were initially introduced to Dogtopia as a customer and loved the concept. We are multi-unit franchisees in other brands and have been looking to diversify for a while but couldn't quite find the right concept until Dogtopia," AJ said. "Dogtopia reminds us of Sport Clips in a lot of ways, and we are excited to be a part of what we feel will be explosive growth in the coming years.”
Florida franchisees Danny and Trinette Rosales are bringing three new locations to Palm Coast, an area south of Jacksonville. Danny recently opened his 16th Jersey Mike's franchise and has 19 more in development, and he also owns two Orangetheory Fitness franchises.
"We are avid dog lovers and saw a rare opportunity to open a business we were passionate about and that is community-driven,” Danny said. “Dogtopia stood out from other pet service brands because of their focus on daycare, unparalleled support with 70 team members, franchise-experienced leadership, and the highest health and safety protocols in the industry. We didn't find any other brand that compared."
Dogtopia has established a purpose beyond profit, too, with the Dogtopia Foundation. Founded to enable dogs to positively change our world, the Dogtopia Foundation currently funds three worthy causes: service dogs for veterans, therapy dogs for students, and employment opportunities for adults with autism. To date, the foundation has raised $2.3 million and sponsored more than 300 service dogs for veterans.
With its proven scalability, clear differentiation, and social responsibility, Dogtopia has become the premier pet services franchise in North America and continues to see significant growth. To learn more about franchising with Dogtopia, visit dogtopia.com/franchising.
